Community Events for Girl Scouts

  New! Cupcake Decorating Event: Sam's Club invites all troops to sign up for fun (free!) Cupcake Decorating! Deadline to register is May 20; activity must be completed by June 30. Contact Jesse Mack at the Apple Valley Sam's Club for more info and to schedule your troop event: 952-432-1200. (For the Eagan Sam's Club, contact Katie Adams at: 651-405-0079).

  Minnesota Twins Youth Clinic: Saturday, June 1, 1-2:30pm. In partnership with Great River Energy, the MN Twins PlayBall MN Youth Clinic is coming to Farmington. The clinic is designed to teach basic fundamentals including hitting, fielding and throwing for girls and boys, ages 6-16, while also providing participation with positive messages about staying in school & away from drugs and alcohol.

Event will be held at Boeckman Middle School, 800 Denmark Ave, Farmington 55024.

All girls and boys, ages 6 to 16, are eligible to participate.

No registration required - just show up on the day and be ready to learn, play and have fun!

MN Twins will provide most equipment - but youth participants are asked to bring their own baseball or softball gloves.

Early Bird Registration

  Our Girl Scout year has been humming right along ... and it's time for 2014 Early Registration:

Troops receive this patch (plus a special shop coupon if at least half of troop + one leader registers) if registered by May 31.

Re-registering? Register online (via credit/debit card) here. (Click on troop management).

Note that troop leaders are required to manage the registration process for new individuals.

Remember, an up-to-date health history form is also required with registration.

Way to Go, Girl Scouts - You Made A Difference!

  Kudos to all the volunteers who packed meals on President's Day: Valley Lake's three shifts included 157 Girl Scouts + 47 adults & family members. This totalled 75% of the day's volunteers. Here are the details:

Shift 1 (9:30-11:30a): 83 people packed a total of 56 boxes, equating to 12,096 meals which will feed 33 kids for a year!

Shift 2 (Noon-2:00p): 65 volunteers packed 65 boxes (one box for each volunteer - wow!), equating to 14,040 meals - feeding 39 kids for a year.

Shift 3 (2:30-4:30p): 56 volunteers packed 60 boxes (WIN!), or 12,960 meals--feeding 36 children for one year.

Totals for the day: 204 volunteers, 181 boxes, 39,096 (almost 40,000!) meals - which feeds 108 children for a year!

Valley Adventures Daycamp

It's time for some Fun in the Sun! Valley Adventures Daycamp is back with another great summer program planned for June 17-21 at Camp Sacajawea in Apple Valley. Registration is now closed - camp is full. However, please contact Gretchen Simpson to check for any cancellations if you would still like to find room for your camper. Your purchase will automatically benefit Valley Lake's Annual Family Fundraising Campaign. Contact Carry Langseth with the size(s) you'll need in advance & she can bring them to the next Leader meeting for you to pick up.

Let's Talk - Main avenues of communication within our Service Unit:

• This Web Site - It's always available and it's updated OFTEN. Make sure to check frequently for up-to-date announcements, & to find flyers & registration for MANY troop activities/events throughout the year.
• Leader's Meetings - Held the first Thursday (usually) of each month, Sept. through May, at the Timbers (Pennock & 140th, Apple Valley). Meetings begin at 6:30pm. Leader meetings are a great way to meet and learn from other leaders in our area, ask questions, get answers first-hand.
